Cakes

Another fun filled week in Nursery.  We have been focusing on ‘rotting and decaying’, ‘changes over time’ and ‘how things change’.  We achieved this by baking butterfly cakes (also part of our mini beast theme) and talked about all the changes that happen during preparation and completion. The children were given the opportunity to describe the textures of the ingredients.  They described the flour as being like snow, fluffy, white, soft and fuzzy.  The caster sugar they described as having bits in it and like sand.  The children understood that the ingredients were a mixture of powder and liquids to start with and that when they stirred the mixture it became harder to mix describing it as cold and creamy. We talked about the cakes being put in the hot oven and getting bigger, changing colour and becoming solid.  They thought the smell of the cakes cooking was amazing.
