Kim’s game is a game we often play in Nursery. It is a good way of developing your child´s memory skills and concentration – both skills useful for all learning.
Kim’s game is very easy to organise. Collect a variety of objects and encourage your child to look closely at them, saying what each object is out loud.
When the child is secure in knowing what each object is, cover all the objects with a cloth (a tea towel is ideal), ask the child to cover their eyes and remove 1 object without the child seeing.
Then the child can look at the remaining selection and say which object has been removed.
An extension to this is to provide objects that you or your child can ‘sound out’ ie h-a-t hat, p-e-n pen etc.
As the child becomes confident, you can add more items to the group.
