Spelling Pattern

This week we have been looking at the spelling pattern for nouns and verbs ending in -y that become plural.

For example:

1 puppy – 2 puppies (puppy ends in consonant -y so we drop the y and add -ies)

1 toy – 2 toys (toy ends in vowel – y so we keep the y and add an -s)

‘spellzone’ is a good website to try out some games to recap our spelling rule. Just type ‘ies’ into the search.
