Good Morning Year Ones!
We’ve had a fantastic week of learning so far and you have all been working incredibly hard, keep up the great work. Don’t forget that today is the last day to send your pictures in, for this week, ready for them to go on the gallery blog at 4pm.
Today’s learning tasks are as follows:
Castle Challenge One:History
Protecting the Castle
How could the Knights in Shining Armour protect the castle?
What did they use to defend the castle and to attack other castles?
Please click on the link below and watch the first video on the website labelled ‘Find out about how people kept Castles safe and how enemies attacked castles’.
Now it is time to put what you have learnt about attacking and defending Castles, into action.
We would like you to play the strategy game called ‘Storm the Castle’.
Have a look at the PDF below, to find out all about the game and to see how you play.
Take care in battle Knights in Shining Armour!
Castle Challenge Two: Geography
Do you know where all of the castles are in the UK?
Take a look at the different castles that you used to play ‘Storm the Castle’ with and research further into where they are and what they are like.
Once you have found out where they are in the UK, use the labeled picture below to help you find them on the map.
Then we would like you to label them on this blank map of the UK.
Super Challenge (Optional)- Can you find three more castles in the UK that were not in the above game and then also add these to your map?
Castle Challenge Three: Phonics
Catalogue I Spy
Find some old catalogues or magazines around the house and go on a word hunt.
Write down the words on a piece of paper and see if you can find them in the catalogue. It doesn’t have to be a toy catalogue, it can be a home store magazine, a food magazine or a recipe book. It will work with many different magazine types.
Try and add the sound buttons to the words, once an adult has written them on a piece of paper for you to find.
READING: Oxford Reading Owl has a fantastic selection of Oxford Reading books for the children to read at their level.
- Follow the link: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/.
- Click on ‘Browse E-books’
- Click on ‘free e-book library’.
- Choose a book
- You can be more specific in your book search and type by selecting browse by age or browse by series.
As well as listening to the children read, it also benefits them to hear adults read and discuss the story together.
For further learning ideas whilst working at home, please have a look at the link below.
Time for a laugh with a cracking castle joke!
Q: What do you call a mosquito in a tin suit?
A: A bite in shining armour.
Have a fantastic day!
