During every phonics lesson we practise spelling some high frequency words.
Recently we have been learning about homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but are usually spelt differently and have different meanings.
We began by writing down as many homophones as we could on our whiteboards. We then chose one and played the Hands up – pair share game where we shared our homophone with others in the class.
Next we discussed the to/too/two homophones and their different meanings. Then after hearing each sentence e.g. ‘It is too wet to play outside!’ the children had to decide which to/too/two was correct and go and stand by that word.
Finally the children wrote some sentences on their whiteboard using the correct to, too or two.
