Maths – 2D Shape

Can you collect some sticks, pens, lolly sticks or something similar. Use them to make a 2D shape.

What shape did you make? How many sides does it have? How many corners does it have?

Is the shape regular (where all the sides are the same length) or irregular?

Does your shape have any lines of symmetry? If so, how many?

Then try making another shape. How many different shapes can you make? Are there any shapes you cannot make? Why not?

General – History – Florence Nightingale

Did you know that Florence Nightingale was born 200 years ago today?

You may know that the new Nightingale Hospitals are named after her. Does that give you a clue as to what kind of job she may have had in the past?

Today, on the anniversary of her birth, could you find out some facts about her?

Writing

Day 2 – Using your planning notes from yesterday, you are going to write the beginning of your dinosaur story.

The skill we would like you to use is to include exciting adjectives in your writing. In your plan you will have chosen your own characters and setting as well as how your characters will meet the dinosaurs.

I have chosen to set my story at the beach. The following is just part of the beginning of my story, when my characters Jonny and Natalie find a special fossil.

There, under the water, lay a shiny white stone. On the stone was a beautiful spiral shape, the remains of a creature from long ago. Carefully, Jonny reached down to pick up the fossil…

In my story, this fossil then takes the children to the land of the dinosaurs.

Use the ideas in your plan to write the beginning of your dinosaur story. Remember to use exciting adjectives to describe your characters and the setting.
