Year three have investigated how temperature affects the speed an ice-cube melts. This links to climate change and how the polar ice caps are melting because of rising temperatures. The main skills we were working on were:
- understanding how a thermometer works
- gaining a better understanding of the unit of measurement degrees centigrade
- how to make a sensible prediction
Here is some of the key language we learnt: prediction, thermometer, temperature, degrees centigrade, science, fair test, variable, solid, liquid and electricity. Perhaps you would like to find out how many of these words they remember?
We were all surprised how long an ice-cube takes to melt.
