Monday 20th April 2020 – Learning Tasks

Good morning Year 4! We very much hope that you have enjoyed the Easter Break, re-charged and had a chance to relax.

This half term, our new topic is ‘On Safari’. Usually, we plan with you! So, feel free to email us with any ideas that you think yourself and the year group would enjoy learning about. This week we are going to base our learning on animals in the zoo.

Here are your learning tasks:

Maths: learning to tell the time – ‘to read, write and convert time between analogue and digital clocks’ will be our focus for this week. (3 x My Maths tasks set)

Topic/Writing: persuasive writing – create a poster or piece of writing to persuade people to visit your zoo.

Spelling: adding the suffix – ous.

Here is some more information if required:

Maths:

Assessment: what do you already know about time? Three My Maths tasks have been set. I will set tasks accordingly throughout the week.

Topic/Writing:

Imagine that you have opened your own zoo! How are you going to persuade people to visit your zoo? Create a poster or write a piece of persuasive text to encourage people to visit your zoo. Maybe you would like to create the ‘homepage of a website’ and include persuasive language? It’s up to you!

Here are a range of resources to help you:

A BBC Bitesize video (it says for KS3 but I think you can rise to this challenge and use of the ideas): https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zv7fqp3/articles/zr8cmfr

Useful zoo link: https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/

Persuasive writing checklist:

A powerpoint to help:

Spelling: adding the – ous suffix

This video will help you learn the rules.

Here is a website with a range of words to help: https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/list-122.htm

How are you going to apply your spelling learning? Don’t try to learn it all today. I will set some more opportunities to practise this week.

Wishing you a great day! We look forward to your emails through the address: Year4@kelvedonacademy.com

Best wishes,

Team Year 4
