Tuesday 23rd February 2021 – Home Learning Ideas

Good morning year 4 ,

it was great to hear that you have continued to work hard at home. Thank you to all of you that have sent your work to us. Don’t forget, we will be hosting two Google meet sessions today. They are as follows:

4R at 11.00am

4C at 11.30am

Here are your learning ideas for today:

Lockdown idea: visiting a museum online

English: nouns

Solving life’s problems: adding fractions

Topic: abstract art

Lockdown idea: Take yourself on a tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History ( in America). Whether it’s through the temporary exhibitions or the permanent collection. Along the way, check out dinosaur skeletons, animals from around the globe and even past exhibits that are no longer on display in reality. Click on the link below to visit:

Collective Nouns:

What is a ‘collective noun’?

Did you know a group of owls is called ‘a parliament of owls’?

Here are some others:

Here is a quiz about collective nouns:

  1. Research some collective nouns for animals or things that interest you.
  2. Write some sentences that include collective nouns (Challenge: can you write simple, compound and complex sentences that include collective nouns?).
  3. Create a poster (with illustrations) that explain what a collective noun is. Can you examples of collective nouns and add in some of your sentences?

Solving life’s problems: adding fractions

Watch the learning video which will help you understand how to add fractions with the same denominator. If you are feeling confident, then try the challenge task below:

For your topic work today, we would like you to carry out some research on the style of art called abstract art. The link below will help you with this learning task. Maybe you could create a poster or a leaflet with the new information you have researched.

We would also like you to have a try at creating your own piece of abstract art. It is entirely up to you what you base your work on. Maybe you could link your artwork to our new topic?

Have a great day of learning!

The Year Four Team.
