5C – ‘Transverse Lines’ inspired art


Continuing with the theme of Russia, 5C learnt about the famous art works of Kandinsky (a Russian born artist). One of his most famous pieces is called ‘Transverse Lines’.


The children began by paired reading information about this painting and discussing unfamiliar words such as: abstract, transverse and impressionism. Secondly, they ‘drew what they heard’ to the songs of ‘Wagner’ – just like Kandinsky would have done. After being inspired, the children created their own interpretations of the picture.
