This week, (in 5H) we started off with a Victorian activities day. We took part in the following: creating a clay Christmas decoration; cooking (Christmas biscuits); reading about the origins and instructions of how to play Victorian games such as marbles, skitttles, dominoes and snakes and ladders; making lolly stick puppets of characters from the Victorian play we read called ‘A Pinch of Salt’, (This is to perform the scene we wrote ourselves in our toy theatre).Other activities were: writing a Christmas thank you postcard to a relative; creating artwork for a postage stamp of a portrait of Queen Victoria and researching the origins of Christmas in the Victorian era. We also used our partner reading skills to find out about topics such as crackers, Christmas food, Father Christmas, cards and presents.
