Learning from home – subtraction/stealing

Practise subtraction with this game.

Each have an amount of objects each (something worth stealing – coins, sweets, shiny things!). You could start with 10 each then try 15 or 20 each.

When it is your turn, roll a dice or pick a number out of a hat and steal that many of the other player’s objects. The aim is to be the first one to steal their opponent’s objects!

Children can just take their objects away and see how many are left or they could try and work out how many will be left by using their fingers, by counting back or by covering them up with their hand. Adults should model how they do it for the children.

Make it easier: use a 1,2,3 dice to subtract small amounts.
