Look around the kitchen for things to weigh.
First, compare 2 items by feeling them. Which is heavier and which is lighter do you think?
Then use scales to find out exactly how much they weigh – adults can help with this! You can compare the numbers and discuss what the number looks like on a digital scale or where the hand goes on a weighing scale.
Then try and order the weight of 3 items, first by having a guess by holding them and then on the scales.
Can you find something heavier than this?
Can you find something lighter than _____?
What is heavier than ____but lighter than ____?
Try and get a variation of heavy things – different sizes – otherwise children can assume bigger things always weigh the most!
