Doubles

During our Maths games, some of us have been talking about doubles. We played a game with the Numicon where we had 2 pieces the same and worked out the total. We also used our fingers to show them, especially double 5 as that is easy: it makes 10! Using Numicon is great for helping us visualise numbers so if we know the shape the 4, we quickly realise that 2+2=4 because it makes the same shape. We also noticed it got a bit harder as the numbers were bigger and we were less familiar with the shape of them.

“There’s two of them.”

“Double means two of the same amount.”

“It’s the same.”

“That’s easy! 1 + 1 makes 2.”

“Ohhh, that’s a hard one.”
