Digraphs

In our Phonics sessions, we will be learning some new digraphs. A digraph is two letters which make one sound. This week we have learned qu, which was quite hard! You make a duck’s mouth with your hands and say qu. We practiced our blending and segmenting skills, reading and spelling words.

We will be learning more over the next few weeks, so please check the back of your child’s tricky words sheet to see which ones we should know.

The Alphablocks call blending ‘word magic’: we press the buttons to blend the sounds qu-i-ck = quick
We have been spelling words by segmenting the sounds with our robot arms or pompoms, then finding the corresponding letters: quiz=qu-i-z
