Segmenting to spell words

We blend sounds to read words and segment words into sounds to help us spell. We use robot arms or pom-poms to help us. If we want to spell hat, we say h-a-t = hat! This week, RJ have written some lists, trying hard to segment words and hear the sounds in longer words. We don’t sound out tricky words.

We work on our letter formation every week and this is something you can work on at home, too.

We have been working on our curly caterpillar letters.
Using pom-poms to segment words.
To begin with, we might not hear all the sounds in words. Here, someone has heard the first sound in the words.
As our segmenting skills improve, we will be able to hear more sounds in words.
