7,8,9 and 10

We have been looking at what 7,8,9 and 10 looks like on a 10 frame. We have been looking for the empty spaces to try and help us remember. Some of us noticed the arrangements, saying things like: “That’s the Numicon shape!” or “That’s 8…4 at the top and 4 at the bottom”. We knew when there were 10 cookies because they filled up the 10 frame! When we got better at remembering, one member of our group tried to trick us by putting the cookies in a different arrangement, but lots of us managed to spot the spaces and work out how many there were!

Understanding that the same amount of objects can be shown in different ways is sometimes harder than it looks: have a go!
