Good morning Year 1.
We hope you are all healthy, taking good care of yourselves and enjoying the family time together. We are all missing you lots!
Here is a list of the learning opportunities for today.
Kind Regards,
The Year 1 Team
English Saving the day comic strip – Fold a piece of A4 paper into 4 or 6 sections. Draw pictures and write short sentences underneath about a real-life superhero saving the day including exclamation marks. It could start with a 999 call and finish with every one cheering!
Maths: Number Representation– Practise writing numbers and then explore 2 digit number place value (how many tens and ones are in each number) and how this can be represented (see attached files) (28 = 2 tens and 8 ones, 34 = 3 tens and 4 ones).
Number representation and ordering
Other: Find as many different objects made from different materials around the house… Think about the different sounds different materials make. Explore how these sounds can be changed? Sound out the syllables in different phrases on the objects (I like fish and chips, I like pizza, I like mashed potato).
PHONICS: In year 1, Children need to focus on phase 3, 4 and 5.
This weeks focus: wh: ‘wh’ always comes at the start of the word (what, when), ph (dolphin, alphabet, elephant, ew: ‘ew’ always comes at the end (threw, grew, chew)

Children also benefit from applying the sounds they are learning through writing them into sentences as well as reading them.
Any online game must be checked first by an adult and closely monitored,
READING: Please continue to regularly listen to your child read. It also benefits children to hear adults read to them and discuss the story.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: it is very important that the children get daily exercise. As well as having fun in the garden (throwing and catching, running, bouncing on a trampoline, etc) , some other fun routines for the children to follow are:
- Wake Up, Shake Up Lazytown
- Cosmic Kids Yoga.
- Joe Wicks Daily PE lessons.
These can be typed into a search engine by an adult who will then need to monitor them.
Have fun!
