Tuesday 12th January 2021 – Home Learning Ideas

Good morning year 4. We hope you had a great start to the week.

Here are your learning ideas for the day:

Lockdown idea: ‘Grow a rainbow’

Solving life’s problems: Factors

English: A character description

Topic: Origami

Here is some more information for you:

Lockdown idea:

Please do not worry if you don’t have the resources! It’s just a fun idea. You could try something else that is creative/science based instead. Remember the adults are busy so you must tidy up afterwards.

Factors:

What are they? Let’s learn about them…

The answers are at the end.

Challenge: Can you think of some creative ways to show your understanding of factors such as these? Try some different ways and try some different numbers.

Extension: Can you complete a range of factor trees? You choose the numbers.

English: writing a character description

Today, we would like you to write a character description that can come at the beginning of your story. Who is your main character going to be? We are going to use Tomotada (from yesterday’s Green Willow story) to base ours on. You can do the same or you can just use some of our ideas.

We would like you to include: adjectives, adverbs and a range of sentence types. Have a look back at last week’s blog if you’re stuck.

First, plan your description:

  • draw a picture of your character
  • mind map some useful words and sentences

You could do something like this:

Write a paragraph about your character.

Here are some words to help you.

We have made a start for you. You could finish this one write one that is even better!

You can send this in for some feedback, or send in the story as a whole later in the week – it is up to you.

Topic: research the art of Origami. With some scrap paper (or coloured paper with adult permission) try your own!

Have a wonderful day.
